The Fort Worth Stockyards

Visiting the Forth Worth Stockyards should be mandatory for residency here in the Republic of Texas. Train rides, museums, good food, and cattle drives. Learn about the city’s history and the famous last names Armour and Swift. Here are a few easy things you can do as you plan your visit.

Parking There is plenty of parking right in the stockyards district. There is even a free lot but it fills up fast. If you map yourself to the stockyards, you’ll see see signs for paid parking in the public lots. You can find a map of parking here.

Military Museum: It doesn’t look like much from the outside, but there is a lot to love in a small space. Lots of American military memorabilia, and even some captured Nazi helmets with bullet holes in them. Kids and veterans are free; all others pay only $5 admission. More photos here.

Love Shack: Order from the counter, enjoy live music, cheap eats, beer, and outdoor seating. This is a nice little place and good for when you’re hungry but not looking to wait for a table at a steakhouse. Check out their website.

Cattle Drive: Twice each day there is a cattle drive at 11:30am & 4:00pm, reminiscent to the origins of Fort Worth’s cattle industry. There are signs with the cattle drive route posted. You’ll want to get into a spot at least 15 minutes before it begins so you can get some good photos! More info here.

More for the Kids: In addition to everything listed above, there are more kid friendly and fun activities! Visit the petting zoo, take a ride on a pony, take some photos of your kids mounted on a longhorn, send them through the maze, and more!
